The capital of Saskatchewan, Regina is a lovely city brimming with attractions from outdoor adventures to art and cultural experiences. The area is also home to great restaurants, many of which showcase the bounty of the land. Here is a list of 10 great dining spots to try in this Canadian city.

Tucked inside a charming renovated house, 13th Avenue Coffee House is a friendly spot perfect for an espresso, made with locally-roasted beans. This café also serves a selection of sweet and savory items, everything made fresh each day. Go for the wonder bowl, cottage cheese, strawberries, coconut, and pecans dusted with cinnamon and drizzled with maple syrup, or try the cathedral veggie burger. If you’re want something stronger than coffee to drink then there is a nice selection of organic wine and beer.

Established in 2011 to help revitalize downtown Regina, Flip Eatery and Drink dishes out North American comfort food with a modern spin as well as creative craft cocktails; try the house bourbon sour with peach infused bourbon, fresh citrus and crushed ice. Featuring an open kitchen and some of the best ingredients, including sustainable and locally sourced items, Flip is innovative with dishes like elk osso buco on top of soft polenta, sofrito and gremolata, or keeps it classic with authentic fish and chips (beer-battered catfish, tarragon tartar sauce, and sea salt-malt vinegar fries).

Bushwakker Brewpub is more than just a pub; this award-winning spot, located on the main floor of the 1913 Strathdee Building in Regina’s Old Warehouse District, adds nine different beers to its menu every year in addition to 20 seasonal beers. The food is also a big draw for locals; think Canadian wild boar burger topped with a fire-roasted red pepper relish, crispy bacon and melted, aged white cheddar. With a warm and inviting interior, wood accents, art by local artists, and old photographs of Regina, Bushwakker keeps people coming back.

Owned by Chef Parveen Singh, Caraway Grill specializes in Indian cuisine that uses the freshest ingredients and aromatic spices. Try the mutter paneer, cottage cheese cooked with green peas and tomato masala or the korma chicken, chicken breast in a rich cashew sauce. If you’re a lover of lamb, don’t miss their house-specialty, the spicy masala lamb. An intimate bistro with a fairly small amount of seating, Caraway Grill always has a wait, but it’s always worthwhile.

La Bodega was the first tapas bar in Regina and it’s still one of the best. Nestled inside a renovated house with a three-level patio, this spot is also environmentally friendly, complete with wind turbines, solar panels, and uses sustainable and organic ingredients. Must-try dishes include the Spanish paella and the mushroom strudel, filo pastry stuffed with cream cheese, herbs and mushrooms served with provençal sauce. If you find yourself here during the winter, don’t miss their ice bar.


Deli, Charcuterie, European, Italian, North American
Started by the Giambattista family back in 1966, the Italian Star Deli is still family-owned, and now a grocery store meets deli, specializing in imported culinary finds. This is the perfect place to stock up on the best olive oils and pastas, sea salts from Italy and the deli also offers cold-cuts and aged cheeses. The panini is the menu must-try here, offered in mild, medium, and spicy varieties. Sandwiches are piled high with deli meat, such as mortadella, genoa, and capricola, plus sliced provolone cheese, house-made Italian oil and vinegar dressing, basil pesto, and yellow ballpark mustard. Go for the added banana peppers, or the spicy marinated vegetable spread to kick it up a notch.

The iconic Milky Way has been a Regina go-to since 1956. An ice cream lover’s paradise, this spot is only open seasonally, just before Easter until Thanksgiving weekend, and offers 40 kinds of hard ice cream plus six soft varieties. Along with a menu of mainstay flavors, there are also specialty flavors featured each day such as root beer, orange, pistachio, mocha, and peanut butter. Not in the mood for ice cream? Milkshakes, floats, slushies, and frozen yogurt are also available. For those wanting something salty, the Milky Way has got you covered with a selection of hot dogs, burgers, and chilli.

The Willow, a fine-dining yet casual spot located on Wascana Lake, the menu her features regional cuisine and seasonal menus that highlight local produce and meats. Open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant’s menu options include dishes such as warm beet soup with a horseradish-truffle cream, and sesame soy grilled bison tenderloin with house-made kimchi apple slaw, fried wild rice and sour cherry and black garlic gochujang. Desserts are not to be missed; think lemon posset with maple-braised cherries, fennel ice cream, and a ginger snap cookie.

Beer Bros. Gastropub and Deli features over 100 beers from around the world alongside an eclectic array of savory and sweet dishes inspired by the imported brews themselves. Whether in the contemporary indoor space with its warm colours, or on the outdoor patio, guests can enjoy snacks, small plates, soups, salads, and entrées. Notable highlights include the classic poutine: crispy, hand-cut frites topped with white cheddar cheese curds and a rye malt peppercorn ale, and the smoked beef Reuben pizza on a marble rye crust topped with smoked brisket, creamy Russian dressing, sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese and pilsner mustard.

Located in the heart of Regina, Siam is a warm and inviting spot specializing in authentic Thai cuisine. The quaint interior keeps the traditional Thai vibe alive with décor imported from Thailand. A typical meal at Siam might begin with an order of tung tong, deep-fried golden pastry bags filled with seasoned shrimp and tied with green onion, followed by num tak moo yang, grilled pork with roasted rice, green and red onion in spicy sour salad with lime juice. Meatless Monday? Try the tempura spinach with green onion, tomatoes, onion, lime juice and special yum sauce.
